Job summary

SYOS Aerospace is seeking an experienced UAS Mechanical Engineer to shape the mechanical architecture of large, autonomous aircraft and oversee design, integration, and testing across the lifecycle.

You will work closely with the Senior Mechanical Engineer and NZ team, performing hands-on assembly, verification, and flight-trial activities while ensuring safety and regulatory compliance. This role demands practical problem-solving and cross-functional collaboration.

Qualifications

• Degree or equivalent in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering.
• Proven experience designing and testing mechanical systems for aerospace/complex platforms.
• Hands-on assembly, inspection, fault diagnosis.
• Experience with test instrumentation and data analysis tools such as MATLAB/Python.

Responsibilities

• Develop and refine mechanical architecture for large UAS.
• Supervise assembly, strip-down, inspections, and fault diagnosis.
• Set up test rigs and data acquisition for structural validation.
• Analyze test data for performance, fatigue, and reliability.
• Investigate manufacturing defects and recommend corrective actions.
• Support safety and compliance with UK CAA/MAA requirements.
