Job summary

Bloomberg in London is seeking an experienced Licensing Counsel to join the Legal & Compliance team. You will partner with Product, Sales and other stakeholders to draft and negotiate complex licensing, data, index and technology agreements globally.

You will advise on legal and commercial risk, address IP, data privacy, regulatory issues, and evolving technologies such as AI. Base in Bloomberg's London office, collaborating across functions to close sophisticated transactions.

Qualifications

• JD or equivalent qualification with admission to the bar (NY or England & Wales or equivalent).
• 7+ years of relevant legal experience in commercial licensing transactions.
• Proven ability to lead complex negotiations independently on sophisticated licensing agreements.
• Strong knowledge of commercial contracts, IP, data, technology and financial markets.
• Excellent written and verbal communication; ability to distill complex issues to actionable advice.
• Strong commercial judgment balancing risk and business objectives.
• Collaborative approach to influence across functions and seniority levels.
• Practical, solutions-oriented mindset managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

• Lead complex commercial negotiations for data, index, technology and related products.
• Advise Product, Sales and Business teams on licensing structures and strategic transactions.
• Identify and manage emerging legal risks as products evolve, including AI-related issues.
• Partner across Legal, Compliance and Risk on IP, privacy, data security and regulatory matters.
• Develop scalable legal risk tools and processes with stakeholders to improve efficiency.
• Monitor regulatory developments and assess practical implications for the business.
• Coach and mentor Negotiations team members on contractual and commercial issues.
• Provide sound commercial judgment to help stakeholders reach well-reasoned decisions.
