Job summary

NSSS is seeking an experienced Multi-Skilled Lathe Setter to join our Birmingham manufacturing team. You will set and operate lathes and drilling machines to produce precision parts from engineering drawings, while supervising operators and maintaining quality.

The role requires reading drawings, selecting tooling and ensuring tight tolerances, with a strong emphasis on health & safety and continuous improvement in a busy workshop environment.

Qualifications

• Experience with lathes, milling or other machining processes.
• Strong knowledge of machining processes and tooling.
• Ability to read and understand engineering drawings.
• Experience working to tight tolerances.
• Knowledge of inspection and measurement techniques.
• Practical problem-solving approach.
• Excellent attention to detail.
• Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
• Strong commitment to quality and health & safety.

Responsibilities

• Setting and operating lathes and drillers.
• Producing precision parts to tight tolerances.
• Reading and interpreting engineering drawings and standards.
• Selecting appropriate tooling, speeds and feeds.
• Capable of grinding turning tools and drills.
• Carrying out in-process quality checks.
• Using measuring equipment such as micrometers, verniers and gauges.
• Maintaining a safe, clean and organised working environment.
