Job summary

First Recruitment Group is seeking a Managing Quantity Surveyor to lead the commercial delivery of major infrastructure projects in Newcastle. The role focuses on contract management, cost control, and value engineering to drive delivery performance.

You will provide commercial leadership across project teams and supply chain partners, manage procurement from tender through to contract award, and mentor junior commercial staff while upholding NEC contract standards and governance.

Qualifications

• Degree in Quantity Surveying or equivalent required.
• Extensive experience in commercial management on infrastructure projects.
• Strong NEC contract administration knowledge.
• Experience preparing payments and final accounts.
• Excellent cost control, risk management and governance.
• Chartered status or working towards RICS.

Responsibilities

• Administer and manage NEC-based contracts on major infrastructure projects.
• Measure, value, and support applications for payment in line with procedures.
• Prepare final accounts and manage cost reporting and reconciliations.
• Monitor costs using project accounting systems and cost/value analyses.
• Plan commercial activities and review project programmes for delivery objectives.
• Oversee procurement from tender through to contract award and management.
• Manage supplier relationships and value-for-money governance.
• Identify and communicate commercial risks with project teams.
• Provide leadership, mentoring and guidance to junior commercial staff.
• Support standards and best practices across commercial functions.
