Job summary

Royal Berkshire Hospital is seeking a Consultant Cellular Pathologist to support histopathology and cytopathology delivery, supervise junior doctors and participate in cancer MDT meetings. The post includes negotiable cancer-site lead duties and coverage of gynecological screening and additional cytology/workload across GI and non-gynae areas.

FRCPath or equivalent and GMC registration are required, with CCT date within six months.

Qualifications

Fellowship of the Royal College of Pathologists (FRCPath) or equivalent qualification and training.
CCT date within six months or imminent eligibility for consultant post.
Full GMC registration with licence to practise, or eligible within six months of interview.

Responsibilities

Support delivery of histopathology and cytopathology services and their development at the Trust.
Lead on one or more subspecialty disciplines, with the cancer site to be negotiated.
Cover gynaecology screening and non-screening workload and MDT work.
Report surgical pathology cases on the general diagnostic rota.
Report urgent cases one day a week under nominal responsibility.
Supervise and report alongside junior medical staff on an equitable basis with consultant colleagues.
Attend cancer MDT meetings as lead or deputy pathologist.
Participate in external quality assurance schemes and relevant clinical audits.
Cover gastrointestinal (GIT) workload.
Report non-gynae cytology with the three other cytology consultants, if the appointee wishes.
Supervise non-gynae cytology reported by registrars.
