Job summary

West Hertfordshire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust is seeking a one-year fixed-term locum consultant in cellular pathology to join a ten-consultant team. The role focuses on histopathology and diagnostic cytology reporting with subspecialty cancer diagnostics and MDT input.

Responsibilities include autopsy and andrology work where appropriate, workload management, teaching and research, and collaboration across Watford and St Albans sites.

Qualifications

• CESR or CCT in histopathology
• FRCPath or equivalent qualification
• UK-trained applicants: CCT held, or within six months of award by interview
• Non-UK-trained applicants: evidence of equivalence to UK CCT

• Deliver histopathology and diagnostic cytology reporting
• Take part in subspecialty cancer diagnostics
• Attend MDTs in person or virtually and provide MDT input
• Contribute to autopsy and andrology services where appropriate
• Manage workload and ensure timely reporting
• Take part in audit and governance
• Contribute to teaching and research
• Support service development projects
• Liaise with specialty leads and consultant colleagues
• Work with laboratory staff and clinicians across multiple sites

Job description

A one-year fixed-term locum consultant post in cellular pathology, joining the ten-consultant team at West Hertfordshire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust. The work centres on histopathology and diagnostic cytology reporting, with subspecialty cancer diagnostics, MDT input and some autopsy and andrology work. Subspecialty workloads are significant in gynaecological, dermatopathology, gastrointestinal and breast pathology, with cross-site commitments to Watford and St Albans. Specialist registration, FRCPath or equivalent, and CCT in histopathology, or being within six months of it, decide eligibility.
