Job summary

Dennis Eagle in Witham is seeking an experienced Workshop Chargehand to lead hands-on vehicle maintenance and supervise daily workshop operations. The role combines servicing and repair of HGVs with coordinating workloads and maintaining quality and safety standards.

You will work closely with the Workshop Controller to manage the workshop, promote safe practices and ensure customer vehicles are repaired efficiently and to DVSA standards.

Qualifications

• Experience maintaining and repairing HGVs or similar commercial vehicles.
• Strong diagnostic and problem-solving skills.
• Knowledge of DVSA regulations and workshop compliance requirements.
• City & Guilds Level 3 (or equivalent) qualification.
• An HGV licence.
• A proactive approach and a commitment to quality and safety.
• The ability to support and motivate others within a busy workshop environment.

Responsibilities

• Servicing, maintaining and repairing HGV and refuse collection vehicles.
• Fault finding and diagnostics across mechanical, electrical and hydraulic systems.
• MOT preparation and chassis/body repairs.
• Supporting the organisation and day-to-day running of the workshop.
• Promoting safe working practices and excellent housekeeping standards.
• Ensuring work is completed to DVSA and company standards.
