Job summary

Plymouth City Council is looking for a Refuse Driver (HGV) to join its commercial waste collection team. You will operate HGV vehicles and support daily routes across the city, helping keep Plymouth clean and sustainable.

The role requires a full HGV Category C licence, Driver CPC and tachograph card, with experience driving HGVs in operational environments, plus a strong emphasis on health and safety and customer service.

Qualifications

• Full HGV Category C Licence (Category C+E advantageous).
• Valid Driver CPC and Digital Tachograph Card.
• Experience driving HGV vehicles in operational environments.
• Good understanding of health & safety practices.
• Strong communication, teamwork and customer service skills.
• Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions and undertake some physical duties.

Responsibilities

• Drive and operate HGV waste collection vehicles safely and efficiently.
• Lead and support collection crews on daily routes.
• Carry out vehicle safety checks and defect reporting.
• Ensure compliance with driver hours, tachograph regulations and health & safety requirements.
• Deliver excellent customer service while working in a public-facing role.
• Complete relevant operational records and documentation.
