Job summary

Bristol NHS Foundation Trust is recruiting a Consultant Gastroenterologist and Hepatologist to join its established Gastroenterology and Hepatology service. The role covers inpatient and outpatient care, endoscopy, and participation in a weekly consultant rota across multiple sites.

The post includes teaching, supervision of trainees, and involvement in governance, research and service development. Flexible working arrangements may be explored to support work-life balance.

Qualifications

• MBBS or equivalent qualification for GMC registration.
• MRCP or equivalent with full GMC registration.
• Inclusion on GMC specialist register or date for it within 12 months.
• Higher academic qualification (e.g. MD or PhD) is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Provide expert assessment, diagnosis and management of GI conditions inpatients and outpatients.
• Participate in Consultant of the Week gastroenterology service (1 in 10 weeks).
• Contribute to on-call rota for upper GI bleed and out of hours care.
• Deliver outpatient clinics with timely assessment, treatment, discharge and follow up.
• Undertake diagnostic/therapeutic endoscopy including UGI; colonoscopy desirable.
• Collaborate within MDTs with IBD, nutrition and hepatology teams.
• Support weekly MDTs and contribute to service development and teaching.
• Provide clinical leadership and drive quality improvement initiatives.
