Job summary

Lola Cars International is seeking a Chief Mechanic at our Silverstone headquarters to lead mechanical preparation, build, inspection and presentation of the Formula E car for race and test events. You will coordinate the car crew, liaise with engineers, and ensure work is completed safely, accurately and to high standards.

The role requires hands-on leadership, meticulous attention to detail and the ability to operate under time pressure in a demanding motorsport environment.

Qualifications

• Substantial professional experience as a motorsport mechanic and leader of a car crew.
• Experience in Formula E, Formula 1, WEC, LMDh, IndyCar, Formula 2 or similar is highly desirable.
• Strong practical knowledge of race-car mechanical systems (suspension, steering, braking, wheels/tyres, hydraulics, pneumatics, composites).
• Experience around high-voltage electric powertrains and safety training/desirable.

Responsibilities

• Lead the mechanical preparation, build, inspection, servicing, repair and presentation of the Lola Formula E car for all race and test events.
• Plan and coordinate the work of the car crew, allocating tasks clearly and ensuring all work is completed safely, accurately, and to the required deadline.
• Take ownership of garage and pit-lane mechanical operations, maintaining a disciplined, efficient, and professional working environment throughout each event.
• Work closely with the Race Engineer, Performance, Controls, Systems, Tyre, and technical teams to deliver required car specification and setup changes.
• Interpret technical instructions, build sheets, setup sheets, drawings and work orders, ensuring the car is assembled and maintained to specification.
• Lead fault-finding and mechanical rectification during sessions and between sessions, making structured decisions under time pressure.
• Maintain rigorous inspection, torque, measurement, cleanliness and sign-off standards; ensure all critical work is checked and traceable.
• Support safe integration and operation of high-voltage powertrain systems in line with electrical safety procedures.
• Manage preparation, control and maintenance of tools, equipment, spares, consumables, lifting equipment and garage infrastructure.
• Ensure race and test cars, spares and equipment are packed, transported and prepared, supporting international event logistics.
• Contribute to car reliability, continuous improvement and preventative maintenance programmes by identifying recurring issues and implementing corrective actions.
• Maintain build records, inspection sheets, fault reports and component histories, communicating actions to factory and trackside teams.
• Establish and improve mechanical operating procedures to ensure safe, legal, reliable and high-performance operation.
