Job summary

Aberdeenshire Council is seeking an experienced Mechanic Foreperson for the Fleet Repair Depot in Inverurie. This hands-on supervisory role combines technical expertise with leadership to ensure efficient workshop operations and high-quality repair and maintenance across the council’s fleet.

You will lead day-to-day workshop activities, supervise staff, plan MOTs, diagnose faults, maintain records, and liaise with drivers and contractors.

Qualifications

• Lead and coordinate workshop operations to ensure safety, efficiency and high standards.
• Supervise and support workshop staff as required.
• Plan and prepare vehicles for MOT.
• Carry out inspections, servicing, maintenance and repairs on fleet vehicles and plant.
• Diagnose faults and undertake repairs in workshop or roadside.
• Maintain accurate maintenance records to meet legal/compliance requirements.
• Liaise with drivers, managers, customers and external contractors.
• Monitor performance, productivity and quality to meet service commitments.
• Support cost control and ensure work is recorded/recovered for internal/external clients.
• Ensure compliance with Health & Safety, DVSA standards and Council procedures.

Responsibilities

• Lead and coordinate the day-to-day operation of the workshop to ensure work is completed safely, efficiently and to a high standard
• Supervise, support and provide guidance to workshop staff when required
• Plan and prepare vehicles for MOT
• Carry out inspections, servicing, maintenance and repairs on a wide range of fleet vehicles and plant equipment
• Diagnose faults and undertake repairs both within the workshop and at roadside breakdowns when required
• Maintain accurate vehicle and plant maintenance records to meet legal and compliance requirements
• Liaise effectively with drivers, operational managers, customers and external contractors
• Monitor workshop performance, productivity and quality standards to ensure service commitments are achieved
• Support cost control and ensure work carried out for internal and external clients is appropriately recorded and recovered
• Ensure compliance with Health & Safety legislation, environmental requirements, DVSA standards and Council procedures
