A leading independent healthcare provider in Bath is seeking a Lead Engineer for their Maintenance Department. In this full-time role, you will oversee engineering maintenance, manage budgets, and lead a team to ensure high standards in a hospital setting. Ideal candidates will possess relevant engineering qualifications and significant experience in maintenance leadership, along with strong communication skills. We have an opportunity for a Lead Engineer to join our team of staff in the Maintenance Department. This role will involve overseeing a team of Engineers, Monday-Friday with ad hoc weekends.
This is a Full time role for 37.5 hours a week.
The successful candidate must reside in or near the area, as the position is based at the hospital.
The provision of Engineering Maintenance and breakdown support to the hospital.
Management and reporting of R & M budgets, reviewing and commenting as appropriate.
Management of Environment and energy reduction
Provide competent Technical, Health, Safety and Environmental support & assistance to EDs and local Hospital Managers, Project Managers and / or Minor works Managers.
Work with the senior leadership team to develop and implement the management tools necessary to operate their facilities to the required standard.
Liaise with the Regional Engineering Manager and Hospital Operations Manager to support and advise on appropriate engineering issues
Cover your cluster sites to meet on-call requirements.
Attend regional/cluster meetings and training courses when required
Provide support to sites within your cluster when required for Holiday, sickness, Vacancys, and or general support provision

WHAT DO YOU DO?
Maintenance and Operational Delivery
Ensure the safe and effective completion of all Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) and Reactive Maintenance tasks in line with Circle Health Group Standard Operating Procedures.
Manage the engineering response to building and equipment faults, ensuring timely and safe resolution with minimal disruption to hospital services.
Oversee the delivery of EBME maintenance routines to ensure all medical equipment is serviced and safe for use.
Team Leadership and Supervision
Provide day-to-day leadership and line management of engineering operatives within your hospital.
Allocate tasks, monitor performance, and ensure training and competency standards are maintained.
Promote a positive working culture that supports professional development, safety, and service excellence.
Budget and Resource Management
Monitor and report on Reactive and Maintenance (R&M) budgets, identifying any variances and contributing to cost control measures.
Manage site engineering resources effectively, including supporting other sites in your cluster during periods of holiday, sickness, or vacancy.
Support energy efficiency programmes and environmental sustainability initiatives in line with Circle Health Groups environmental strategy.
Compliance and Health & Safety
Provide competent technical, health, safety, and environmental support to hospital leadership, ensuring legal and regulatory compliance.
Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, incidents, and contractor works in accordance with hospital policy.
Ensure compliance with statutory testing, fire safety protocols, Legionella prevention, and infection control standards.
Contractor and Stakeholder Management
Liaise with sub-contractors and external service providers to ensure maintenance tasks are completed efficiently, safely, and to the required quality.
Work collaboratively with Executive Directors, Hospital Managers, Project Managers, and Regional Engineering Managers to address operational and capital works needs.
Attend regional and cluster meetings and training to support continued professional development and service alignment.
Reporting and Continuous Improvement
Produce and submit engineering reports in line with departmental schedules, providing updates on site status, compliance, and performance.
Support service audits and contribute to quality improvement initiatives across engineering and estates services.
Assist in the implementation of systems, tools, and processes to enhance the delivery of engineering services across the hospital estate.
WHAT DO YOU HAVE?
City & Guilds Part 3, HNC, or NVQ Level 4 (or equivalent) in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.
CSCS card or ECS card (if electrically qualified) at the appropriate level.
Proven experience in engineering maintenance, ideally within a hospital or similar critical services environment.
Experience in team leadership, task allocation, and performance management.
Comprehensive understanding of health and safety legislation, including risk management, fire safety, and Legionella prevention.
Strong fault-finding, organisational, and communication skills.
Time-served apprenticeship in a relevant engineering discipline.
Fire Safety or Fire Risk Assessment training.
Experience managing sub-contractors and minor works.
Understanding of energy management systems or environmental reporting.
Familiarity with Computer Aided Facilities Management (CAFM) systems.
