GitLab is seeking a Principal Engineer to shape the Duo Agent Platform, the orchestration layer for AI agents across the software lifecycle. You will set technical direction, collaborate with multiple teams, and deliver reliable, secure, and scalable agent workflows in a distributed, remote environment.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of software engineering experience, including senior leadership at Staff/Principal level.
• Experience with large language models: agent loops, tool calling, context management.

Responsibilities

• Define technical direction for a major area of Duo Agent Platform and translate it into a multi-team roadmap.
• Build reliable agent orchestration layer with session lifecycle, tool invocation, and error handling.
• Hands-on architecture and implementation across projects; contribute to incident management and platform governance.
• Mentor engineers and drive cross-team collaboration; author design docs and architecture narratives.
