Job summary

Biffa Group in Edmonton is seeking a hands-on Lead Engineer to supervise a shift team at our busy Materials Recovery Facility (MRF). You will drive plant performance, manage maintenance priorities and lead by example to uphold high engineering standards.

The role offers a London Weighting allowance, a 4 on/4 off shift pattern, and opportunities to develop the team and site processes. Salary is £58,000 inclusive of LW allowance.

Qualifications

• HNC in Mechanical or Plant Engineering is required.
• Experience supervising engineering teams in industrial/manufacturing settings.
• Strong fault finding and problem-solving ability.
• Experience with hydraulics, pneumatics and welding.

Responsibilities

• Lead a shift team of engineers and contractors to maximise plant performance.
• Prioritise planned and reactive maintenance to support operations.
• Carry out fault finding, diagnostics and repairs across plant and machinery.
• Deliver preventative and breakdown maintenance to minimise downtime.
• Support RCA investigations and implement long-term actions.
• Identify continuous improvement opportunities for reliability and efficiency.
• Ensure safety and adherence to procedures in all activities.
• Maintain maintenance records using the CMMS and ensure clear handovers.

Lead Engineer

Salary: £58,000 inclusive of LW allowance.
Shift Pattern: 4 on, 4 off, rotating 2 days and 2 nights

A quick look at the role

We’re looking for a hands on Shift Engineering Supervisor to lead and support a team of multi skilled technicians at our busy Materials Recovery Facility (MRF) in Edmonton.

You’ll be responsible for driving plant performance, reducing downtime, prioritising engineering activity, and ensuring maintenance work is completed safely and efficiently. This is a key leadership role where you’ll lead by example, develop your team, and help deliver high engineering and operational standards across site.

Our essential requirements

• HNC qualified in Mechanical or Plant Engineering.
• Previous experience supervising engineering teams within an industrial, manufacturing or processing environment.
• Strong fault finding and problem solving ability.
• Experience with hydraulics, pneumatics and welding.
• Ability to prioritise workloads and perform well in a fast paced operational environment.

Previous experience in the following roles will also be considered:

Engineering Team Leader, Maintenance Team Leader, Shift Maintenance Supervisor, Engineering Operations Supervisor, Lead Shift Engineer, Engineering Chargehand, Senior Maintenance Engineer, Engineering Shift Lead, Site Engineering Supervisor or Maintenance Shift Lead.
