Job summary

Biffa Waste Services in Edmonton is seeking a proactive Shift Maintenance Engineer / Fabricator to support reliability of our plant and equipment. The role combines mechanical maintenance, fault finding, fabrication and welding to keep operations safe and efficient.

You will work 4 on 4 off, 12-hour shifts with overtime, and benefit from a salary of £51,751.70 per year plus London Weighting. This hands-on position requires practical metalwork skills and the ability to read engineering drawings

Qualifications

• Engineering or fabrication qualification such as Level 3 City & Guilds or NVQ.
• Strong mechanical maintenance and/or fabrication experience.
• Experience fault finding, repairs and preventive maintenance on production equipment.
• Practical experience in fabrication, metalwork, welding and modification of metal components.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced operational environment.
• Proactive problem-solving with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Responsibilities

• Deliver high levels of plant availability through maintenance, fabrication and rapid breakdown response.
• Diagnose mechanical faults quickly and carry out efficient repairs to minimise downtime.
• Support and deliver planned preventative maintenance (PPM) schedules across site equipment and machinery.
• Carry out fabrication, welding, cutting and modification work to repair, maintain or improve plant and equipment.
• Manufacture, repair and modify metal components, brackets, guards and supports as required.
• Identify recurring faults and help develop long-term engineering solutions and process improvements.
• Carry out mechanical maintenance, fitting, fabrication and repair work on plant and equipment.
• Read and interpret engineering drawings, sketches and technical specifications.
• Liaise with external contractors and suppliers regarding specialist maintenance and repair activities.
• Maintain high standards of health & safety and compliance at all times, including welding and hot works.
• Ensure activities comply with company procedures and current legislation.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives to improve reliability and plant performance.
