Job summary

Oakmont Consulting in Birmingham is seeking a Lead Embedded Software & Controls Engineer to define and implement model-based control strategies for HVAC and thermal systems on-site. You will translate MATLAB/Simulink models into embedded C/C++ and run MIL/SIL/HIL validations against CAN and field data.

The role includes mentoring junior engineers, setting software architecture standards, and driving the thermal platform development. On-site 5 days a week, negotiable for the right candidate.

Qualifications

• Degree in Control, Electronics, Mechatronics, Automotive or Mechanical Engineering.
• 5+ years in controls development and model-based design.
• Strong command of embedded C/C++ and MATLAB/Simulink.
• Experience with CAN/J1939 and thermal systems in automotive context.

Responsibilities

• Lead model-based control strategy for HVAC and thermal systems.
• Develop embedded C/C++ implementations from Simulink models.
• Validate designs using MIL/SIL/HIL against real data.
• Mentor junior engineers and establish architecture standards.
