Job summary

Morson Edge in Newport, Wales, is seeking an experienced Electrical Testing Team Leader to oversee daily testing operations on rolling stock systems, ensuring safety, quality and timeliness. You will lead a small team, coordinate fault finding, and drive continuous improvement while managing resources and priorities.

The role requires proven leadership in manufacturing or engineering, shift-based experience, and strong problem-solving, communications and mentoring skills.

Qualifications

• NVQ Level 3 or Modern Apprenticeship in a relevant discipline.
• Experience leading a team within a manufacturing, engineering or similar environment.
• Experience working within a shift-based operation.
• Good understanding of production processes and plant operating procedures.
• Experience of lean manufacturing techniques.
• Ability to read and interpret schematics, drawings and technical documentation.
• Experience of training, coaching and mentoring others.
• Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
• Ability to prioritise workload and manage people, tools and resources effectively.
• Ability to remain focused and motivated under pressure.
• Experience managing performance and maintaining high standards.

Responsibilities

• Oversee day-to-day testing activities of the team, ensuring safety and quality.
• Lead fault-finding and complex testing on rolling stock or vehicles.
• Coordinate testing within the department and monitor performance against targets.
• Manage resources, allocate work and schedule shifts to maximise productivity.
• Carry out on-board testing on test trains prior to release into service.
• Coach and develop team members; conduct toolbox talks and briefings.
• Ensure documentation, test reports and records are accurate and timely.
• Promote continuous improvement and lean initiatives within the team.
• Maintain a clean, safe working environment and ensure compliance with policies.
