Job summary

ZÖLLNER System GmbH in the United Kingdom is seeking an experienced Electrical Lead to provide technical leadership, and oversee projects within our rail manufacturing environment. The role blends electrical design input, hands-on work, and project oversight from design through commissioning.

You will mentor one electrical engineer/technician, manage minor electrical projects, and ensure safety-critical equipment is calibrated and compliant with rail standards.

Qualifications

• Strong knowledge of electrical systems including power distribution and control systems.
• Ability to read, interpret, and contribute to electrical and system designs with track design awareness.
• HNC/HND in Electrical Engineering or related discipline.
• Certifications: SMSTS or SSSTS desired.
• Familiarity with CAD tools such as AutoCAD, Revit, MicroStation or SolidWorks.
• Hands-on, safety-focused leadership and problem-solving.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to and review electrical and system designs with track design interfaces.
• Act as technical authority, ensuring compliance with BS 7671, CDM 2015, and rail/manufacturing standards.
• Review, update, and sign off electrical designs, test results, risk assessments, and technical docs.
• Manage and deliver minor electrical projects, including planning, scheduling, and budgeting.
• Take a hands-on role in cabinet wiring, repair, testing, commissioning, and calibration of rail equipment.
• Provide day-to-day supervision, mentoring, and guidance to one electrical engineer/technician.
• Order materials, manage stock levels, and coordinate maintenance to support projects.

Job description

We are seeking an experienced Electrical Lead to provide technical leadership, hands‑on expertise, and project oversight within our rail manufacturing environment. This role combines electrical design input, project management responsibility, and practical electrical work, including the repair and calibration of safety‑critical equipment.

You will manage and mentor one electrical team member, while remaining actively involved in day‑to‑day electrical tasks and supporting project delivery from design through to completion.

What we are looking for

• Electrical & Track Design Support: Contribute to and review electrical and system designs, with a strong understanding of track design interfaces, rail standards, and how electrical systems integrate within the wider rail infrastructure.
• Technical Authority & Compliance: Act as the main point of contact for technical queries, ensuring compliance with BS 7671, CDM 2015, and relevant rail and manufacturing standards.
• Documentation & Quality Control: Review, update, and sign off electrical designs, test results, risk assessments, and technical documentation, ensuring accuracy and traceability.
• Project Management: Manage and deliver minor electrical projects, including planning, scheduling, cost estimation, and progress reporting, ensuring delivery on time and within budget.
• Hands‑On Electrical Work: Take a proactive, hands‑on role in cabinet wiring, repair, testing, commissioning, and calibration of electrical and safety‑critical rail equipment.
• Technical & Team Leadership: Provide day‑to‑day supervision, mentoring, and technical guidance to one electrical engineer/technician, ensuring high standards of workmanship and compliance.
• Resource & Stock Management: Order materials, manage stock levels, and coordinate maintenance activities to support manufacturing and project requirements.

What to bring

• Technical Skills: Strong knowledge of electrical systems including power distribution and control systems. Ability to read, interpret, and contribute to electrical and system designs, with awareness of track design requirements.
• Previous leadership experience in a manufacturing or technical environment is preferred but not mandatory; however, strong organisational skills are essential for success in this role.
• Qualifications: HNC/HND in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
• Certifications: SMSTS or SSSTS (highly desirable).
• Familiarity with CAD software such as AutoCAD, Revit, MicroStation or SolidWorks.
• Experience with surface mount technology (SMT), soldering techniques, debugging electronic circuits, and signal processing is highly desirable.
