This position reports to

Electrical Delivery Manager

Your role and responsibilities

In this role, you will act as the technical lead on projects within a dynamic team covering industries such as renewables (Wind/H2/Hydro), Oil & Gas, Chemicals, and Power-to-X. You will ensure all engineering activities within your area are executed efficiently and cost-effectively. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in high voltage substation design, including air-insulated (AIS) and gas-insulated switchgear (GIS). This role requires a deep understanding of electrical engineering principles and the ability to lead complex projects from conception to completion, acting as a design authority for electrical engineering.

The work model is hybrid from our St Neots, Aberdeen, or Daresbury locations. You will be mainly responsible for:

1. Leading the design and implementation of eHouse, Substation, MV/HV/EHV AIS & GIS Switchgear (up to 400kV), transformers, and protection systems.
2. Collaborating with stakeholders to ensure project success, managing timelines, budgets, resources, and conducting risk assessments.
3. Providing technical support during project execution, preparing detailed documentation, and conducting HAZOP and EHAZOP workshops.
4. Ensuring installation and grid code compliance, including leading power system studies and coordinating large projects.
5. Ensuring compliance with UK electrical standards, codes, and regulations.
6. Providing expertise in power distribution, protection, and control systems.
7. Overseeing preparation of engineering reports, plans, and specifications.
8. Conducting feasibility studies, cost estimates, and technical evaluations.
9. Mentoring junior engineers and technical staff.
10. Participating in project management activities such as budgeting and scheduling.
11. Developing client relationships and supporting marketing and business development.

Qualifications for the role

• Experience in the energy sector, particularly in power generation, transmission, or distribution.
• Masters or Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
• Chartered Electrical Engineer or working towards it.
• Proven experience in high voltage substation design.
• Proficiency in electrical design software and tools.
• Strong communication skills and a collaborative approach.
• Excellent English language skills.
• Ability to plan, prioritize, and demonstrate commercial awareness.
