The Lead Electrical Engineer is responsible for the technical leadership, coordination and delivery of electrical engineering activities for the design and development of load banks and associated power systems. The role leads a team of electrical engineers, ensuring robust, safe and compliant electrical designs that support product performance, reliability and manufacturability. Working cross-functionally with mechanical, software, production and quality teams, you will help deliver complete engineered solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and coordinate electrical design activities for load banks and power-related equipment.
- Lead the electrical design of resistive, inductive, capacitive and combined load banks across low- and medium-voltage applications.
- Define electrical architecture, schematics and system-level design strategies.
- Produce and validate electrical calculations, including load, fault-current, thermal, sizing and protective-device coordination calculations.
- Review and approve electrical designs, calculations and technical documentation produced by the team.
- Own the creation and maintenance of wiring diagrams, schematics, control-panel layouts and bills of materials.
- Oversee the selection of electrical components, including contactors, relays, fuses, sensors, switches, resistors and power electronics.
- Support prototype build, testing, commissioning and field issue resolution, and provide technical support to manufacturing.
- Lead design reviews, hazard analyses, risk assessments and failure analyses, including DFMEA.
- Manage and mentor electrical engineers, coordinate workload and support technical development.
- Ensure designs meet relevant safety, regulatory and quality requirements, and support certification activity and technical documentation.
- Identify opportunities for product improvement, cost reduction and performance optimisation.
Essential Requirements
- Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
- Six or more years of experience in electrical design or power-systems engineering, including at least two years leading projects or teams.
- Strong electrical-design background for power systems, industrial equipment or load banks.
- Proficiency with electrical CAD tools such as EPLAN, AutoCAD Electrical or SolidWorks Electrical.
- Knowledge of three-phase power systems, distribution, grounding and earthing, control circuits and protection devices.
- Experience with resistive and reactive load design, thermal behaviour and high-power circuitry.
- Strong understanding of relevant standards, including IEC, UL, CE, BS EN and NFPA 70/79.
- Ability to perform detailed electrical calculations and analysis.
- Demonstrated experience leading or mentoring electrical engineering teams.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to coordinate multidisciplinary engineering activity.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines.
Desirable Experience
- Experience with PLC or controls integration, or SCADA systems.
- Familiarity with high-voltage design principles.
- Knowledge of FAT, SAT and type-testing procedures.
- Understanding of manufacturing processes and Design for Manufacture and Assembly (DFM/DFA).
