Job summary

Work Harrow is seeking a Lead Driver for SEND & Accessible Transport. You will oversee accessible passenger services, perform vehicle readiness checks, and support basic fleet maintenance to ensure safe operations.

The role requires a Category D1 or Category D driving licence, CPC qualification, MiDAS and First Aid training, plus a commitment to safeguarding and safe passenger transport.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Drive allocated vehicles safely following planned routes and schedules.
  • Transport passengers safely, comfortably, and with dignity, assisting boarding/exiting.
  • Carry out daily vehicle safety inspections and ensure checks are correct.
  • Record and report vehicle defects and ensure unsafe vehicles are not used.
  • Ensure vehicles are clean, fueled, and ready for service each day.
  • Carry out basic fleet maintenance and report maintenance issues.
  • Assist with vehicle compliance inspections and maintenance monitoring.
  • Follow safeguarding procedures at all times.

Description

Lead Driver responsible for accessible passenger transport services, vehicle readiness checks, and basic fleet maintenance tasks. The role supports vehicle safety, compliance requirements, and the safe transportation of passengers using accessible transport vehicles.

Duties
  • Drive allocated vehicles safely and responsibly following planned routes and schedules.
  • Transport passengers safely, comfortably, and with dignity, including assisting with boarding and exiting vehicles.
  • Complete daily vehicle safety inspections and ensure checks are carried out correctly.
  • Record and report vehicle defects and ensure unsafe vehicles are not used.
  • Ensure vehicles are clean, fuelled, and ready for service each day.
  • Carry out basic fleet maintenance tasks and report maintenance issues.
  • Assist with vehicle compliance requirements, inspections, and maintenance monitoring.
  • Hold a Category D1 or Category D driving licence.
  • Hold a CPC qualification.
  • Category D1 licence holders must not have the 101 restriction.
  • Ability to undertake passenger transport duties and vehicle safety checks.
  • Follow safeguarding procedures at all times.
  • MiDAS training.
  • First Aid training.
  • Basic mechanical knowledge.

Additional information
