Job summary

Leonardo is seeking a Lead DevOps Engineer to provide technical leadership across UK programmes, guiding automation, secure software delivery, and CI/CD excellence. The role is based on client site near Gloucester with potential cross-project opportunities within Leonardo.

You will mentor teams, shape technical approaches, and drive DevOps practices while managing delivery against customer requirements and security standards.

Qualifications

• Extensive automation and secure DevOps experience across projects.
• Experience delivering CI/CD pipelines and secure software delivery.
• Strong knowledge of cloud platforms (AWS/Azure) and IaC.
• Ability to mentor teams and influence technical directions.
• Experience with monitoring, security practices and governance.

Responsibilities

• Act as technical authority for automation and DevOps across projects.
• Lead CI/CD design and implementation including IaC and container orchestration.
• Embed security into pipelines and environments (DevSecOps).
• Capture requirements and shape technical designs at multiple levels.
• Own delivery for work packages including planning and estimation.
• Mentor DevOps engineers and technicians to raise capability.
• Support assessments, feasibility studies and roadmaps.
• Engage with stakeholders and defend technical solutions.
