Job summary

AtkinsRéalis UK Limited is seeking an experienced land safety engineer to lead platform- and equipment-level safety work across defence programmes. You will influence client decisions, develop modern safety cases and manage lifecycle hazard arguments across acquisition and in-service delivery.

Role involves leading safety cases, design and operational hazard logs, and ensuring safety arguments remain proportionate, current and usable as capabilities evolve and new contexts arise.

Qualifications

• Substantial experience delivering safety engineering or safety assurance in a defence land environment.
• Strong experience with military vehicles, land equipment, defence acquisition and systems integration.
• Experience leading safety cases and hazard-management activities.
• Knowledge of systems engineering and proportionate, defensible solutions.
• Confident client-facing communication and production of technical deliverables.

Responsibilities

• Lead land safety assignments across acquisition and in-service delivery, ensuring evidence supports decisions on integration, acceptance, operation and maintenance.
• Provide pragmatic safety advice and maintain current, usable safety arguments.
• Lead safety work packages for military platforms, equipment, upgrades and in-service change.
• Shape safety arguments for safe-to-operate, maintained-correctly and operated-safely claims across involved organisations.
• Advise Delivery Teams and stakeholders on proportionate and usable safety solutions.
• Review outputs, guide hazard workshops and promote lifecycle traceability.
