Job summary

Hastings Direct is seeking a Lead Data Scientist to shape and deliver advanced Data Science solutions across the business. You will lead a team of Data Scientists, taking ownership of projects from exploration to deployment and ongoing optimisation, collaborating with stakeholders and driving impact across insurance domains.

You will mentor analysts, craft strategy, and evaluate new data sources while ensuring models are robust, scalable and well governed.

Qualifications

• Proven experience leading and developing Data Scientists.
• Strong ML, statistical modelling and predictive analytics expertise.
• Strong Python and SQL in a commercial setting.
• Experience taking ML models through full lifecycle to production.
• Experience with large, complex datasets and cloud data platforms.

Responsibilities

• Lead and mentor a high-performing team of Data Scientists.
• Shape and deliver the Data Science strategy within your area.
• Develop and deploy advanced ML and statistical models.
• Own Data Science projects from concept to production and monitoring.
• Collaborate with senior stakeholders to drive data-driven decisions.
• Evaluate new data sources and technologies to enhance modelling.
• Ensure models are robust, scalable and governed with validation.
• Partner with Data Engineering to build data pipelines and production support.
• Translate complex outputs into clear insights for technical and non-technical audiences.
• Promote best practices and drive continuous improvement across the function.
