Job Description Summary

As a Lead Control & Protection System Engineer, you will report to the Control System Application Manager.

You will be part of a highly motivated and dynamic team working on the design of Control and Protection functions for LCC and VSC HVDC schemes. This involves technical challenges across multiple engineering disciplines, teamwork, and innovation.

Your responsibilities include studying and mentoring others on existing designs in MATLAB / Simulink, transferring them to PSCAD, and managing the full delivery lifecycle, including plant model design, verification, testing, and evaluation.

Job Responsibilities

• Support Tendering, Operations, Contractual, and After Sales activities.
• Prepare responses to technical queries and resolve customer issues.
• Conduct Dynamic Performance Studies (DPS) and other design studies using simulation tools.
• Lead engineering design reviews, identify risks, and propose reliable solutions.
• Understand project milestones, their financial impacts, and mitigate technical risks to ensure timely delivery.
• Ensure project plans include necessary activities to meet customer requirements and technical specifications.
• Lead and mentor team members on control, protection, and sequencing strategies.
• Propose and implement continuous improvements in control application processes.

Qualifications / Requirements

• Engineering degree or equivalent with power systems and electronics knowledge, or proven HVDC experience.
• Strong communication skills, experienced in technical reporting and client interactions.
• Ability to understand customer requirements and develop client relationships.
• Knowledge of power system characteristics, AC-HVDC interactions, and control strategies.
• Experience with PSCAD and MATLAB-SIMULINK.

Desired Characteristics

• Process improvement or RCA certification.
• Technical leadership experience.
• HVDC industry experience.
• Ability to define and adhere to best practices.
