Job summary

First Recruitment Group is seeking a Principal Civil Design Engineer to lead the design of critical water and wastewater infrastructure projects in the UK. The role can be on a contract or permanent basis, based in the North of England, and involves technical leadership across multidisciplinary teams, bid support, and driving engineering excellence.

You will deliver safe, sustainable, cost-effective solutions, prepare and review design calculations, and mentor engineers while maintaining

Qualifications

Degree in Civil Engineering (BEng, MEng or equivalent).
Significant UK water and wastewater industry experience.
Strong understanding of water and sewage treatment principles.
Experience leading multidisciplinary design projects.
Ability to develop practical, economical engineering solutions.

Responsibilities

Lead and coordinate complex civil engineering designs within the water sector.
Provide technical leadership across multidisciplinary project teams.
Develop innovative, practical and risk-balanced engineering solutions.
Ensure designs are safe, compliant, buildable and cost-effective.
Produce, review and approve design calculations, specifications, drawings and documentation.
Support project bids and successful project delivery.
Maintain engineering governance and quality standards.
Manage technical delivery against programme, cost and resource requirements.
