Job summary

First Recruitment Group is seeking a Principal Civil Design Engineer to lead the design of critical water and wastewater infrastructure projects in the UK. The role can be on a contract or permanent basis, based in the North of England, and involves technical leadership across multidisciplinary teams, bid support, and driving engineering excellence.

Our Client has a requirement for a Principal Civil Design Engineer, who will be required to work on a contract orpermanent basis in the North of England.

Role Purpose:

• Provide technical leadership across major water and wastewater infrastructure projects.

• Support major project bids and technical strategy.
• Mentor and develop engineering teams.

Experience / Skills / Knowledge / Qualifications:

Essential

• Degree qualified in Civil Engineering (BEng, MEng or equivalent).
• Significant experience within the UK water and wastewater industry.
• Strong understanding of water and sewage treatment principles and associated civil infrastructure.
• Demonstrable experience leading multidisciplinary engineering design projects.
• Ability to develop practical, efficient and economical engineering solutions and plant layouts.
• Broad understanding of mechanical, electrical, process engineering and project management disciplines.
• Excellent technical judgement and problem-solving skills.
• Strong communication and stakeholder management abilities.
• Ability to confidently present technical solutions to clients and project teams.
• Proven ability to manage multiple workstreams and deliver quality outcomes to programme.

Desirable

• Chartered Engineer (CEng) status.
• Experience acting as a design reviewer, approver or technical signatory.
• Established network within the UK water sector.
• Experience managing or mentoring engineering teams.
• Knowledge of relevant UK water industry standards, specifications and regulations.
