Job summary

Berkeley Scott seeks a Chef Manager to oversee school and contract catering sites across Derby. This temporary agency assignment pays £18.00 to £24.00 per hour, plus holiday pay, and involves daily kitchen operations, team leadership, and ensuring high-quality meals.

Location: Derby. Job Type: Agency. Ideal candidates include Chef Managers, Head Chefs, Sous Chefs or Senior Chefs with a passion for safe, efficient service and positive dining experiences for students and staff.

Qualifications

• Previous experience as a Chef Manager, Head Chef, Sous Chef or Senior Chef.
• Experience leading or supervising a kitchen team.
• Contract catering or education catering experience is highly desirable.
• Food Safety Level 2 certificate.
• Food Allergen Awareness certificate.
• Good knowledge of food safety and allergen procedures.
• Strong leadership and communication skills.
• Ability to confidently manage a busy kitchen.

Responsibilities

• Managing the day-to-day running of the kitchen.
• Preparing and cooking fresh, high-quality meals.
• Leading, motivating and supporting the kitchen team.
• Following menus, recipes and catering requirements.
• Managing stock, ordering and minimising food waste.
• Ensuring food safety, hygiene and allergen procedures are followed.
• Maintaining a clean, organised and safe kitchen.
• Supporting the wider catering operation.
• Ensuring meals are delivered on time and to a high standard.
• Creating a positive dining experience for students and staff.
