Job summary

Rolls-Royce SMR is seeking a Lead Control & Instrumentation Engineer to drive the full design and development lifecycle of C&I systems for the SMR nuclear power plant, including system architecture, sub-system design, and integration with safety‑classified systems.

You will guide teams in structured systems‑engineering methodologies, ensure compliance with international standards, and lead verification and validation planning across the project lifecycle.

Qualifications

• Nuclear industry experience or experience in a highly regulated environment with C&I lifecycle.
• Design and development experience in C&I systems.
• Knowledge of IEC 61513, IEC 61226 and IEC 61508.
• Strong systems engineering and requirements management.
• Ability to lead cross-functional design and verification activities.

Responsibilities

• Translate high‑level requirements into C&I system specifications.
• Collaborate with C&I Functional Architects on system design and implementation requirements.
• Liaise with engineering disciplines to integrate system functionality and performance.
• Ensure C&I designs meet regulatory and technical requirements.
• Produce verification and validation plans and test programs.
• Support lifecycle policies and maintenance considerations for C&I equipment.
• Contribute to safety case development and regulatory engagement.
• Provide technical leadership across the discipline and mentor junior engineers.
