Job summary

Jacobs is seeking a Building Services Lead to champion FEED and detailed design for HV substations and HVDC projects in the UK. You will lead M&E design teams, coordinate with clients and contractors, and ensure timely, high-quality design packages across diverse environments.

The role requires a degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, proven HV substation experience (132kV-400kV), familiarity with UK building regulations, and strong leadership to mentor junior engineers and drive bids

Qualifications

• Degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering or equivalent Building Services qualification/experience.
• HV substation design experience (132kV-400kV) and/or HVDC Converter Stations.
• Experience in building services electrical engineering and HVAC systems.
• Knowledge of T&D standards and processes including National Grid, SSE and IEC.
• MCIBSE / MIET CEng accreditation (or actively working towards it).
• Strong knowledge of UK building regulations.
• Proven project leadership and people management capabilities.
• Excellent technical skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to deliver high-quality, innovative solutions in a multidisciplinary environment.

Responsibilities

• Lead building services FEED and detailed design workstreams for TSO, DNO, Contractor and Developer clients.
• Ensure quality assurance and timely delivery of design packages and bids.
• Lead Building Services aspects in delivery, including layouts, calculations and specifications.
• Lead the design and integration of HVAC systems, ventilation, dehumidification, and environmental control systems for GIS substations, and other critical electrical infrastructure.
• Lead building services engineering for HVDC converter stations, including HVAC systems, cooling infrastructure, pressurised rooms, fire suppression systems, and auxiliary electrical services.
• Design and specify gas monitoring, leak detection, and emergency ventilation systems.
• Coordinate with design engineers, suppliers, and subcontractors.
• Attend and contribute to design reviews, hazard reviews, FATs and SATs.
• Provide technical leadership and mentoring to junior engineers.
• Support tendering activities and contribute to technical offers.
• Maintain strong client relationships and support business development.
