Job summary

Jacobs is seeking a Building Services Lead to oversee HV substation design across 132kV-400kV and HVDC converter stations in the UK. You will guide design teams, ensure quality and timely delivery, and drive HVAC, cooling and environmental control systems for critical infrastructure.

The role demands proven leadership, strong knowledge of UK building regulations, and collaboration with clients, suppliers and internal teams.

Qualifications

• Degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering or equivalent qualification/experience.
• Experience in HV substation design (132kV-400kV) and HVDC converter stations.
• Familiarity with National Grid, SSE and IEC standards and processes.
• MCIBSE / MIET CEng accreditation or active progression toward it.
• Strong UK building regulations knowledge and project leadership skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead FEED and detailed design workstreams for HV projects for various clients.
• Ensure quality assurance and timely delivery of design packages and bids.
• Lead building services aspects: layouts, calculations, specifications.
• Design and integrate HVAC, ventilation, dehumidification and environmental control.
• Oversee HVDC converter station HVAC, cooling, pressurised rooms and power systems.
• Specify gas monitoring, leak detection and emergency ventilation systems.
• Coordinate with design engineers, suppliers and subcontractors.
• Attend design reviews, hazard reviews, FATs and SATs and mentor juniors.
• Support tendering activities and contribute to technical offers.
• Maintain strong client relationships and assist business development.
