Job summary

Client Server in Newcastle is seeking a Lead Backend Engineer to design and implement core applications, build APIs and microservices, and drive data processing and integrations onsite.

You will mentor teams, conduct code reviews, shape product vision, and stay hands-on with architecture across Python and TypeScript stacks in a consultancy FinTech environment. Join a dynamic team with relocation support within the UK.

Qualifications

• You have a minimum 2.1 BSc in Computer Science or similar technical discipline.
• Strong software engineering experience across Python, TypeScript, APIs and cloud.
• Advanced client engagement and consultancy skills.
• Excellent communication and business acumen.
• Hands-on with architecture, design and modern dev practices.
• Ability to lead, review code and mentor teammates.
• Experience shaping product vision and roadmaps.

Lead Backend Engineer / Developer (Python TypeScript API) Newcastle onsite to £130k

Your role:

As a Lead Backend Engineer you'll design and implement the logic behind core applications, build APIs and microservices that handle data processing, business rules and third-party integrations and oversee the configuration and upkeep of secure, reliable server environments, working with a range of programming languages and technologies, dependant on the client environment.

You'll work closely with internal teams and customers to gather detailed requirements through meetings and workshops and help shape the product vision and roadmap by offering technical insight and feasibility guidance, remaining hands-on with architecture and design.

You will be a technical leader, instilling best practices, conducting code reviews, mentoring and collaboratively problem solving to help your team remove any blockers and delivery high quality software.

Location:

You'll join colleagues in brand new Central Newcastle offices on a full-time basis (Monday to Friday), working hours 0900-1800 with some flexibility. The offices are well equipped and offer fantastic views across the City and the local countryside, many employees walk or cycle in (onsite showers available!).

About you:

• You have achieved a minimum 2.1 BSc in Computer Science or similar technical discipline from a top tier / Russel Group university, backed by A's at A-level
• You have strong software engineering experience with a range of technology e.g. C#, .Net, Python, TypeScript, C++, Rust, RESTful APIs, Vue.js, React, PostgreSQL, CI/CD, Cloud (AWS, Azure, GCP), DevOps
• You have advanced communication and client relationship building skills gained within a consultancy environment
• You have strong business acumen
• You're a technologist who enjoys collaborating and problem solving
• You have a good knowledge of modern software engineering best practices across the full software development lifecycle
• You have a thorough understanding of Computer Science fundamentals such as OOP, Data Structures, Design Patterns, Algorithms
