Job summary

Thomson Environmental Consultants is seeking an aquatic consultant to join our Water team. You will lead surveys, analyze data and prepare technical reports for riverine and estuarine environments across England and Wales.

You will manage multiple projects, liaise with clients and landowners, and stay updated on regulations. A Full UK driving licence is required; the role offers a competitive benefits package and opportunities for career advancement.

Qualifications

• Proven experience in aquatic ecology, hydro-ecology, or related fields.
• Strong technical knowledge of ecology / hydro-ecology survey techniques, assessments, legislation, and project management.
• Full, clean UK driving licence and ownership / access to a car with business insurance.
• Desirable: experience as Assistant Consultant or Consultant level in environmental consultancy.
• Desirable: expertise in biological indices and surveys to assess aquatic ecosystem health, including macroinvertebrate surveys and analysis.

Responsibilities

• Lead and deliver aquatic ecology and/ or hydrology projects, including surveys and consenting projects with environmental assessments.
• Produce high quality reporting and assessment deliverables for clients within time and budget constraints.
• Coordinate field surveys, liaise with clients and landowners, and ensure compliance with Thomson’s methods.
• Assist in business development by preparing tenders, quotes, and supporting revenue growth.
• Stay updated on ecology / hydrology legislation and survey techniques for continuous professional development.
