Job summary

Thomson Environmental Consultants is seeking an aquatic ecologist to join its Water team. You will lead and deliver aquatic ecology and hydrology projects, coordinating field surveys and producing high-quality reports to meet regulatory standards across England and Wales.

The role emphasizes survey techniques, data analysis, and effective client liaison. A full, clean UK driving licence is required as travel to sites is involved and flexible working arrangements are possible.

Qualifications

• Proven experience in aquatic ecology, hydro-ecology, or related fields.
• Strong technical knowledge of ecology / hydro-ecology survey techniques, assessments, legislation, and project management.
• Full, clean UK driving licence and ownership / access to a car with business insurance.

Responsibilities

• Lead and deliver aquatic ecology and/or hydrology projects, including macroinvertebrate surveys and consenting projects with supporting environmental assessments.
• Produce high quality reporting and assessment deliverables for clients, within allocated time and budget constraints.
• Coordinate field surveys, liaise with clients and landowners, and ensure compliance with Thomson's methods.
• Assist in business development by preparing tenders, quotes, and supporting revenue growth.
• Stay updated on ecology / hydrology relevant legislation and survey techniques, for continuous professional development.
