Job summary

Wellcome Sanger Institute seeks a Principal Staff Scientist to lead AI/ML strategy across the Human Genetics Programme. You will steer predictive modelling and causal inference from genetic and multiomic data and mentor researchers in the analytics group.

You will oversee model validation across cohorts, set standards, and work hands-on on impactful projects such as IBD cohorts and real-world clinical data integration.

Qualifications

• PhD in statistical genetics, computational biology, statistics or related field.
• Proven track record in AI/ML methods for disease prediction.
• Experience analyzing human genetic and genomic data at scale.

Responsibilities

• Provide strategic direction and oversight for AI/ML across the Programme.
• Lead on analytical strategy and model development for clinical use.
• Ensure analytical consistency, tools and standards across projects.
• Contribute hands-on data analysis on key cohorts and projects.
