Job summary

Wellcome Sanger Institute invites a Principal Staff Scientist (computational) to provide strategic direction in AI/ML and genomic data analysis across our Human Genetics Programme. You will shape analytical strategy, coordinate statisticians and computational scientists, and contribute hands-on analysis for multiomic and clinical data from patients, spanning large cohorts and complex datasets.

Qualifications

PhD in a quantitative discipline with strong AI/ML and genetics focus.
Proven track record delivering complex research projects.
Expert in AI/ML methods for disease prediction.
Experience with large-scale human genetic/genomic data.
Proven ability to write code and analyze data.
Experience mentoring staff and leading collaborations.
Excellent communication across diverse audiences.

Responsibilities

Provide strategic direction and oversight for AI/ML across the Programme.
Lead on predictive modelling and causal inference across genetic and clinical data.
Ensure analytical consistency and share tools and standards.
Lead intellectual driver for AI/ML strategy and join Working Group.
Represent the Programme in AI/ML areas internally and externally.
Hands-on coding and data analysis on projects like IBD cohorts.
