Job summary

Wellington College is seeking an enthusiastic Laundry Operative to support the daily life of over 1,200 pupils across a 400-acre campus. The role offers part-time (30 hours) or full-time (40 hours) options and a salary package that recognises hours worked.

Working in a high-specification laundry facility, you will sort, wash, dry and finish garments to ensure the comfort, wellbeing and presentation of the College community, with opportunities for skill development and progression.

Responsibilities

  • Sorting garments and linens by fabric type and colour to ensure optimal care.
  • Loading and programming washing machines with pupil clothing, bedding and specialist items.
  • Transferring freshly laundered items to dryers and selecting appropriate settings.
  • Operating finishing equipment including shirt finishers, rotary calendar and trouser press.
  • Folding, pressing and packing items into designated house bags for return.

We have an exciting opportunity within our Domestic department who are looking for an enthusiastic and dedicated Laundry Operative.

About the role

We have part time (30 hours per week - 8am till 2pm) and full time (40 hours per week) opportunities available.

The Laundry Operative plays a key role in supporting the daily life of over 1,200 pupils across Wellington College’s 400-acre campus. Working within a high-specification laundry facility equipped with both traditional and ozone machines, the post holder will contribute to the efficient and professional delivery of laundry services that underpin the comfort, wellbeing and presentation of the College community.

Salary FTE of £26,000 - Actual for 30 hours per week £19,500.

Person Specification
  • Essential:
  • Understanding of laundry processes and equipment
  • Awareness of health and safety procedures
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team
  • Experience working in a practical, hands‑on environment
  • Desirable:
  • Previous experience in a commercial laundry or similar operational setting
  • Experience working in a school or residential environment
  • Familiarity with specialist laundry items (e.g. sports kits, uniforms, robes)
