Job summary

Derbyshire County Council's Highways Service is offering two Apprentice Roadworkers - Level 2 at Willington Depot, Derby. You will join an operational team and gain hands-on experience maintaining the county's highway network while studying towards the Level 2 Highways Maintenance Skilled Operative Apprenticeship.

Qualifications

• Willingness to work outdoors in a physically active role.
• Ability to follow instructions and work under supervision.
• Good team working and communication skills.
• Commitment to learning and completing the apprenticeship.
• Must be over 18 years of age due to health and safety requirements.
• Desirable: Interest in construction, engineering or practical trades.
• Desirable: Experience in hands-on or outdoor environments.
• Desirable: Awareness of health and safety in a work setting.

Responsibilities

• Assist with highway repairs including carriageways, footways and drainage.
• Support excavation, reinstatement and maintenance activities.
• Work with tools, plant and equipment under supervision.
• Assist with traffic management and site safety arrangements.
• Support safe delivery of works in live highway environments.
• Maintain equipment and keep work areas safe and tidy.
• Contribute to efficient delivery of works to required quality standards.
• Interact professionally with the public and minimise disruption.
