Job summary

Northumberland County Council is recruiting for a Highways Operative/Driver based at Blyth depot. The role involves conducting highway repairs, maintenance, and drainage work within a live highway environment.

The candidate should hold a Level 2 Highways qualification (or be working towards it) and have experience in civil groundworks, with the ability to drive vehicles up to 7.5 tonnes. Desirable skills include paving, kerbing and resurfacing.

Qualifications

• A level 2 qualification or equivalent in Highways or working towards a trade qualification.
• Knowledge and experience of civil groundworks in a live Highway environment.
• Ability to drive a variety of work related general purpose vehicles up to 7.5 tonnes.
• Desirable: larger construction works including paving, kerbing, drainage, bricklaying and resurfacing.

Responsibilities

• Carry out highway repairs and maintenance works including paving, kerbs, concrete works and drainage reinstatement.
• Operate and maintain highway plant and small equipment with required safety checks.
• Drive and maintain security of non-HGV vehicles, including daily/weekly vehicle checks and log sheets.
• Collaborate with team to ensure high standards of highway safety and compliance.
