Job summary

Mars is seeking a Laser Applications Engineer in Didcot. You will develop laser micromachining processes for customers and run production work on state-of-the-art laser systems, spanning UV to IR wavelengths and femtosecond-pulse durations.

Ideal candidates have a degree in Lasers/Optical Engineering/Physics, practical laser micromachining experience, and strong IT skills. This role offers a competitive salary with benefits and a clear path in a leading laser systems environment.

Qualifications

• Good degree or MSc in Lasers or Optical Engineering or Physics or Engineering or similar qualification plus equivalent practical experience
• Practical laser applications, especially micromachining is advantageous
• Some knowledge of the following - Laser micro-machining - Integration and test of complex laser systems - Machine control software or programming - Materials science - Metrology, microscopes, SEMs etc - Optical systems
• Good computer and IT skills
• Industrial experience preferred

Responsibilities

• Develop laser micromachining processes for customers
• Run production work for customers
• Work with state-of-the-art laser systems with wavelengths from UV to IR and femtosecond to nanosecond pulse durations
• Collaborate within a high-performing Laboratory team
