Job summary

Royal Borough of Kingston upon Thames is seeking a Lane Rental Officer to coordinate the Lane Rental Scheme and permit processes. You will work closely with the Lane Rental Coordination Team Lead, prioritising congestion prevention and safe highway works across Kingston’s borough.

The role involves site inspections, technical advice to works promoters, and data-backed reporting while using DfT Street Manager and internal systems. Hybrid working is available depending on the role.

Responsibilities

• Assess permit applications and liaise with utility companies.
• Carry out site inspections to ensure compliance with legislation like the New Roads and Street Works Act.
• Identify work clashes and negotiate with utility companies to coordinate safe roadworks.
• Plan and conduct site inspections to ensure traffic management is compliant (Chapter 8) and public safety is maintained.
• Validate charges, manage records, and support funding bids and performance reports.
• Act as a key contact for the public, Councillors and emergency services, handling enquiries professionally.
• Utilise DfT Street Manager and internal systems to maintain records and data evidence.
