Job summary

Veolia is seeking a Landfill Aftercare & Maintenance Technician in Otterbourne, Hampshire to support gas and leachate systems, environmental monitoring, and site maintenance. The role requires a driving licence, mechanical and electrical basics, and a strong safety mindset.

The successful candidate will perform inspections, operate and maintain infrastructure, and work across leave and weather conditions. Join Veolia to help protect the environment, support community health, and develop skills

Qualifications

• Basic mechanical and electrical skills are desirable.
• Valid driving licence essential.
• Understanding of waste treatment biological processes preferred.
• Strong appreciation of Health and Safety practices and safe work systems.
• Computer literacy required.
• Knowledge of gas systems infrastructure and well field balancing.
• Familiarity with leachate pumping systems desirable.
• GCSE qualifications (level C preferred) in maths, English and science.
• Analytical mindset and problem-solving skills.
• Good physical fitness for extensive walking on landfill sites and environmental awareness.

Responsibilities

• Balance gas well fields and monitor gas flare operations.
• Conduct environmental sampling and monitoring, both scheduled and ad hoc.
• Perform regular site checks on leachate wells, analyse problems, and implement corrections.
• Maintain and install gas and leachate infrastructure, including compressors and pumps.
• Carry out minor electrical works, including problem identification and isolation.
• Perform well remediation and fusion welding of pipework.
• Manage leachate treatment plants, pumping, and storage systems where installed.
• Conduct audits of infrastructure and maintain equipment.
• Monitor water, leachate, and gas levels, recording data in compliance with company procedures.
• Work independently in various weather conditions, including out-of-hours call-outs when required.
