Job summary

Hoot Recruit is partnering with a growing engineering and surveying business to appoint a Setting Out Engineer / Land Surveyor. This permanent role covers sites across the UK with nationwide travel, offering a hands‑on, autonomous on‑site position. You will set out and survey using total stations and GPS, produce site drawings, and work with AutoCAD.

A CSCS card and full UK driving licence are essential; travel to sites nationwide is expected. Salary is £40–45k.

Responsibilities

• Carrying out setting out and surveying duties across projects.

• Working with AutoCAD and related surveying software.
• Liaising with site teams, contractors and project managers to ensure accuracy and efficiency.

The Opportunity

We are recruiting on behalf of a growing and well-established engineering and surveying business looking to appoint an experienced Setting Out Engineer / Land Surveyor to join their team.

This is an excellent opportunity for a hands‑on engineer or surveyor who enjoys a varied role, working across different sites and projects throughout the UK.

Our client has invested in modern surveying equipment and technology and is looking for someone who takes pride in their work, has a strong technical background and is comfortable working independently on site.

Key Responsibilities

• Carrying out setting out and surveying duties across a variety of construction and engineering projects.
• Using total stations, GPS and other surveying equipment to deliver accurate site measurements.
• Producing and interpreting site drawings, plans and survey data.
• Working with AutoCAD and associated surveying software.
• Liaising with site teams, contractors and project managers to ensure work is completed accurately and efficiently.
• Maintaining high standards of accuracy, safety and professionalism on site.

What We're Looking For

• Previous experience as a Setting Out Engineer, Site Engineer or Land Surveyor.
• Confident using total stations and GPS equipment, ideally Leica, Trimble or similar.
• Good working knowledge of AutoCAD.
• Experience with LSS or n4ce surveying software would be advantageous.
• Valid CSCS card.
• Full UK driving licence.
• Based in the North West of England and willing to travel to sites nationwide.
• A practical, organised and self-motivated approach to work.
