Job summary

BYLOR is recruiting Civil Engineering Surveyors for the Hinkley Point C project in Somerset. You will join a dedicated survey team delivering one of Europe’s largest civil engineering and nuclear works, establishing a comprehensive survey control network and providing precise measurements across site and office environments.

You will work with state‑of‑the‑art equipment such as Leica TS16/MS60 robotics, RTC360 and GNSS, and use Civil3D, AutoCAD and Leica software to generate survey data, quality

Qualifications

  • Degree in Geomatics or Engineering Surveying is desirable.
  • Experience with survey hardware and software essential.
  • Knowledge of survey network establishment preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Report to Senior Civil Surveyor and support the survey team.
  • Implement dimensional control and ensure data quality.
  • Manage survey data and analytics for project delivery.
  • Supply survey drawings and data to stakeholders.
  • Produce survey quality records and provide technical support.
  • Work on site and in office as required.

CIVIL ENGINEERING SURVEYOR
Company:

Bouygues Travaux Publics (TP) and Laing O’Rourke, two of Europe’s most dynamic engineering and construction specialists, are working together in a joint venture named BYLOR to deliver the main civil engineering works at Hinkley Point C (HPC) worth over £2.8 billion.

positions are now available with Bylor at HPC. We are expanding our capabilities by forming a new survey team to operate in parallel with our existing function, and we are seeking experienced engineering surveyors to support the delivery of one of Europe’s largest and most complex civil engineering and nuclear projects. This represents a unique and exciting new scope for Bylor, independent from our main site activities, offering you the chance to play a key role in the success of this landmark project.

Function

Civil engineering surveying is a branch of civil engineering that deals with the measurement, analysis, and design of land and structures. Surveying is a critical part of civil engineering, as it helps provides technical support and information that is used throughout all phases of the project. As part of this role, you will be involved in establishing and implementing a comprehensive survey control network specifically designed for this scope, ensuring precise and consistent measurements are maintained throughout all project activities

Role & Responsibilities:
  • Report to Senior Civil Surveyor
  • Implementation of dimensional control
  • Quality assurance
  • Survey data management and analytics
  • Supply Survey drawings and data
  • Produce survey quality records
  • Provide technical support
  • Working both on site and in an office as required
  • Utilise a variety of ‘state of the art’ specialist survey equipment and technology including,
  • Leica TS16 / MS60 Robotics, Leica RTC360, Leica GNSS or similar

Software use includes, Civil3D, AutoCAD, Leica Infinity, Leica Cyclone3RD, MicroSurvey Star*Net, Microsoft Office, Excel and more

Essential skills & Technical knowledge:
  • 2 years + in a similar role
  • Specialist engineering surveying skills
  • Experience working on large Infrastructure projects
  • Knowledge of and experience in survey network establishment desired
  • Must have experience in the use of survey hardware and software
  • Numeracy and the ability to make mathematical calculations
  • The ability to understand and interpret data
  • Lateral and logical thinking
  • Cutting-edge IT skills and confidence with new technology
  • Problem solving and analysis
  • Attention to detail
  • Client interface and customer service skills
  • Verbal and written communication skills
  • Good organisation and time management

The ability to work independently and as part of a team

Education & Qualifications:
  • Degree in Geomatics /Engineering Surveying (Desirable but not essential)
  • ICES/RICS membership (Desirable but not essential)
  • Technical Qualifications required (NVQ/HNC etc.)
Location

Unless stated otherwise all positions are based at Hinkley Point C in Somerset.

Somerset boasts beautiful English countryside, an attractive coastline, interesting towns and villages along with easy access to the M5 and within proximity to the cities of Bristol and Exeter.

All positions with Bylor are employed directly with either Laing O’Rourke or Bouygues Travaux Public and include competitive salaries, private medical insurance, company pension schemes and annual holiday allowance. Some grades will also include a company car allowance.
