Job summary

Matchtech is seeking a Land Rights Project Manager for a contract role across the UK, with a hybrid working model. You will lead a team of land rights specialists delivering large infrastructure projects within the Land, Planning and External Affairs function.

You will act as an expert witness in Public Inquiries and Compulsory Purchase cases, manage stakeholder relationships, report milestones and financials, and support the Head of ETNI/SINI Land Teams.

Qualifications

  • Strong communication skills and ability to advise teams.

Job description

Our client, a leader in the energy sector, is seeking a dedicated Land Rights Project Manager for a contract role based across the UK, with a hybrid working model. This position is key to supporting the UK’s ambition to achieve a net zero carbon footprint by 2050, specifically focusing on the development and delivery of new infrastructure projects within the Land, Planning, and External Affairs department.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Guide a diverse team of land rights specialists, overseeing projects from inception to completion, including land acquisition and community negotiations
  • Provide expert advice and technical support to team members
  • Lead a team of surveyors and land officers for major new infrastructure builds
  • Act as an expert witness in Public Inquiries, Compulsory Purchase, and Land Tribunal cases
  • Implement National Grid’s Land Rights Strategy consistently and economically
  • Report on project progress, key milestones, risks, and financial matters to stakeholders
  • Manage internal and external stakeholder relationships and effectively communicate complex ideas
  • Support the Head of ETNI/SINI Land Teams in project delivery
  • Provide technical advice to National Grid’s Land Team and the broader project team
  • Liaise with stakeholders, external suppliers, and third parties to achieve project objectives
  • Attend relevant meetings and forums as required
Job Requirements:
  • Significant experience in managing large-scale, complex land projects
  • Proven ability to provide guidance and support within a team setting
  • Strong communication skills, capable of handling conflict situations and advising team members
  • Excellent project management skills with a keen understanding of land rights and acquisitions
  • Relevant professional qualifications preferred (e.g., Member of the RICS, project management certifications)
  • Relevant degree in a related field
