Job summary

Matchtech seeks a Senior Surveyor for a hybrid contract role within a major energy client’s Land, Planning and External Affairs team. The role spans across the UK, delivering essential land rights and infrastructure for net-zero objectives.

You will lead surveyors on large-scale projects, provide expert advice, support Inquiries and Tribunals, and manage valuations and acquisitions throughout development to construction.

Qualifications

  • Degree/HND/HNC in surveying or equivalent with chartered status.
  • Proven experience negotiating high-value deals in gas/electricity utility sectors.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.

Responsibilities

  • Providing professional expert advice and technical support to the team
  • Leading a team of surveyors and land officers on major new build infrastructure projects
  • Offering expert witness support in Public Inquiries, Compulsory Purchase and Land Tribunal cases
  • Undertaking valuations using a range of techniques and methodologies
  • Developing and delivering land rights and acquisitions from development to construction
  • Implementing National Grid’s Land Rights Strategy and supporting policies
  • Reporting on programme, key milestone delivery, risk, and finance
  • Communicating and managing internal and external stakeholder requirements
  • Supporting Land Project Managers in project delivery
  • Providing technical advice to the National Grid Land Team
  • Collating and verifying data/evidence for securing land rights
  • Liaising with stakeholders including National Grid, external suppliers, and third parties
  • Producing documents to an appropriate standard
  • Attending meetings or other forums as required

Our client, a leading entity in the energy sector, is currently seeking a Senior Surveyor to join their Land, Planning and External Affairs department. This is an exciting contract role with a hybrid working arrangement, offering opportunities to work across the UK. The energy industry is evolving to meet the UK's ambition of reaching net zero by 2050, and this role is pivotal in delivering the necessary infrastructure to achieve this goal.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Providing professional expert advice and technical support to the team
  • Leading a team of surveyors and land officers on major new build infrastructure projects

Job Requirements:
  • Degree/HND/HNC standard in a relevant surveying discipline and chartered
  • Experience in undertaking complex and high-value negotiations within the gas/electricity utility sector
  • Significant knowledge and experience in the specialist subject matter
  • Ability to function as a member of an integrated team with neutrality, assurance, confidence, and objectivity
  • Excellent communication skills, capable of dealing with people on all levels and supporting team members in conflict situations
Desirable Qualifications:
  • Land rights surveying qualifications, preferably a Member of the RICS or similar
  • Project Management qualification (e.g., APM)
  • Relevant Degree
