Job summary

City of Kingston is seeking seasonal workers to clear sidewalks, driveways and public areas during winter. Duties include shovelling, plowing, and maintaining pathways at Kingston, ON. You may be interviewed on-site with resume and driver’s license in hand.

Requirements include a High School diploma, 1 year heavy equipment experience, and a valid G license. Work involves outdoor winter conditions and potential background check.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • At least 1 year of experience driving or operating heavy equipment.
  • Valid G Ontario driver's license; DZ considered an asset.
  • Must pass a police check and be able to work outdoors in winter.

Responsibilities

  • Hand shovel walkways, stairs and building entrances.
  • Trim brush and maintain sidewalks and paths.
  • Operate light plow truck to clear lanes, parking lots and dead ends.
  • Clear catch basins and patch potholes.
  • Participate in seasonal parks maintenance.
  • Haul snow and/or sand as needed.
  • Set up outdoor skating rinks and assist with ice making.
  • Garbage collection and litter cleanup.
  • Perform general labour tasks like flower bed prep and watering.
  • Other duties as assigned.

LOCATION: 701 Division Street, Kingston, ON

We keep Kingston’s infrastructure and public spaces safe, clean, and functional through a wide range of operations. Our team maintains roads, sidewalks, parks, sports fields, gardens and trees; manages seasonal operations such as snow removal; and responds to drainage and storm issues, ensuring the city remains vibrant and well‑maintained year‑round.

What you'll do...
  • Required to hand shovel (ex. Stairs, walkways, building entrances)
  • Required to trim brush
  • Operate light vehicle plow (1 ton) to clear turning lanes, parking lots, laneways and dead ends
  • Responsible to clear catch basins
  • Responsible to patch and repair pot holes
  • Participate in seasonal parks maintenance
  • Haul snow and/or sand
  • Build and take down outdoor skating rinks, assist with making ice and flooding as required
  • Responsible for garbage collection, litter picking and illegal dumping clean‑up
  • Perform labour related tasks, such as flower bed preparation (i.e. roto‑tilling, shoveling, edging), watering flower beds, vegetation removal/ disposal, as well as similar labour and material handling tasks
  • Other duties as assigned

**This position receives 4% in lieu of vacation + 13% in lieu of all benefits in addition to hourly rate of pay**

  • High School (Grade 12) diploma or equivalent
  • 1 year of experience driving and/or operating heavy construction equipment, and/or working as a labourer on and around heavy equipment on construction sites
  • Must have knowledge and training in Traffic Control and Occupational Health and Safety Act
  • Must possess a valid G Ontario drivers licence with a satisfactory driver’s abstract; DZ licence is an asset
  • Must demonstrate corporate values of Belonging, Collaboration, Accountability, and Innovation
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
  • Able to perform the essential duties of the job
  • Ability to work outside in inclement weather conditions and perform all duties in a safe and efficient manner
  • Must be willing to work any and/or all shifts
  • Proof of immunity to Tetanus and Hepatitis B may be required
  • Must obtain and maintain a satisfactory criminal record check
