Job summary

Mears Group in Folkestone is seeking a General Operative to support roofing and groundworks repairs across residential properties. This is a full-time, permanent role, with a 42.5-hour week from 8:00am to 5:00pm, Monday to Friday.

You will travel between sites, work independently and as part of a team, uphold health and safety standards, and provide excellent customer service to residents.

A full UK driving licence is required and candidates must have the entitlement to work in the UK.

• Knowledge of health and safety requirements and safe working practices
• Ability to work independently and manage workload effectively
• Reliable, organised, and able to meet agreed deadlines

Responsibilities

• Assist with roofing repairs, including roof tile and slate replacements, guttering repairs, and general roof maintenance.
• Support groundworks repairs, including fencing, paving, drainage, concrete repairs, and external property maintenance.
• Carry out excavation, reinstatement, and site preparation works as required.
• Assist with drainage renewals, repairs, and clearance of blockages.
• Erect, repair, and replace domestic fencing and gates.
• Transport and safely handle materials, tools, and equipment between sites.
• Ensure work areas are kept clean, safe, and free from hazards throughout the working day.
• Remove and dispose of waste materials in line with company procedures and environmental regulations.
• Identify and report any additional repairs, defects, or health and safety concerns to the supervisor.
• Provide excellent customer service when interacting with residents.

About the Role

We are looking for a hardworking and reliable General Operative to join our team, supporting roofing and groundworks repairs across a range of residential properties. Working as part of a responsive repairs team, you will help deliver high-quality maintenance and repair services, ensuring homes remain safe, secure, and well maintained.

This is a varied and physically active role that involves travelling between properties, working both independently and as part of a team, and maintaining high standards of health and safety and customer service at all times.

Duties

• Assist with a range of roofing repairs, including roof tile and slate replacements, guttering repairs, and general roof maintenance.
• Support groundworks repairs, including fencing, paving, drainage, concrete repairs, and external property maintenance.

• Capture before and after photographs where required.
• Safely use equipment, power tools, and personal protective equipment (PPE) in accordance with Health & Safety procedures.
• Assist colleagues with planned and responsive maintenance works when required.
• Ensure company vehicles, equipment, and storage areas remain clean, organised, and well maintained.
• Complete works to a high standard while meeting agreed timescales and productivity targets.
• Provide excellent customer service when interacting with residents, clients, and members of the public.
• Work collaboratively with team members and other trades to deliver quality repair and maintenance services.
