Responsible for the analysis of laboratory specimens, both routine and specialized, and the subsequent result reporting according to laboratory protocol and procedures.

Responsibilities

1. Technical Duties
   • Evaluates specimens for acceptability and accurately performs all testing using current methodologies, instruments, and manual methods if applicable.
2. Quality
   • Investigates and documents problems with unacceptable specimens.
3. Problem solving
   • Follows established guidelines for troubleshooting instrument, reagent, or specimen problems.
4. Regulation Compliance
   • Complies with established laboratory and hospital policies for universal precautions and safety.
5. Phlebotomy
   • Accurately performs phlebotomy (venipuncture, finger stick, heelstick) when requested or when required by workload demand.
6. People
   • Participates in staff meetings and helps promote effective working relationships.
7. Customer Service
   • Uses patient/family-centered values and conducts all work activities with respect for the rights and wishes of patients, visitors, and patients' families.

Qualifications

1. Education
   • AS degree in Laboratory Science or MLT from an accredited institution or equivalent required.
2. Experience
   • Previous experience preferred.
3. Licensure
   • American Society of Clinical Pathologists certification (MLT-ASCP) preferred.
