Job Title: Laboratory Technician

Reports to: Operations Manager

Location: Watkins Building, Avonmouth, Bristol

Contract Duration: 18 months

Overview

Bio-Techne is a world-leading developer and manufacturer of high-quality biological reagents. We are seeking a Laboratory Technician to join our growing team in Bristol. Bio-Techne, and all its brands, provides tools for researchers to further treat and prevent disease worldwide.

The successful candidate will form a key part of our distribution and operations team for both Research Use Only (RUO) and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) products. They will be responsible for preparing and weighing products from our Tocris range accurately and to accepted quality standards, primarily within our GMP cleanroom environment. This involves working to maintain the required levels of pre-weighed stock in accordance with business continuity, as well as ensuring customer orders are processed and dispatched according to the required standards and in compliance with shipping regulations.

Core Responsibilities

The responsibilities of the Laboratory Technician include the following:

  • Undertake RUO and GMP weighing activities ensuring high quality standards are maintained and all product documentation or electronic systems are accurately updated.
  • Work in controlled manufacturing environments, including cleanrooms, using the appropriate personal protective equipment.
  • Use and maintenance (as required) of laboratory equipment including centrifugal concentrator/freeze dryer/liquid handling robotics/fluorometer.
  • Preparation of kitted products including preparation of individual components via either weighing or other methods and subsequent combination of components into retail kits
  • Pick and pack orders for dispatch ensuring accuracy of consignments
  • Ensure that all packages are prepared in accordance with the regulatory guidelines for transportation and that all dispatch paperwork is accurately presented with the goods.
  • Assist with receipting and delivery of purchase orders for laboratory products.

Key Skills And Competencies

  • Accurate, thorough, and attentive to detail when handling tasks. An eye for detail.
  • Numerate and literate
  • Good team worker – able to work cross functionally with multiple departments
  • Self-motivated and initiative to work autonomously with little or no supervision
  • Ability to run basic calculations such as reconstitution/dilution
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work in controlled manufacturing environments including clean rooms with extensive PPE.
  • Working conscientiously under ISO:9001 standards with a constant awareness for quality in everyday workflows.
  • Good IT skills; ability to use M/S Office software (especially Word, Excel, Outlook), Tocris’ Product Database and Pegasus OPERA (training will be provided) and any other tools relevant to role
  • Willingness to grow knowledge of Tocris products, services, customers and marketplace
  • Knowledge of Health and Safety procedures and safe chemical handling
  • Knowledge of weighing/packing procedures, including operation of digital balances
